Olive is a 9 year old terrier, picked up as a stray, without a microchip and with no way of finding her original owner. Once she had completed her statutory time in the council pound, and no owner had come forward to claim her, she was brought to our vets for what we thought was a routine hysterectomy (spay). However, she managed to surprise our vet team!

Her left ovary was full of cysts. Cystic ovaries can certainly be very painful in humans. Her right ovary was enlarged with solid tissue, which is more consistent with some type of tumour. Fortunately, there was no sign of spread within the abdomen, both ovaries were removed along with the rest of the reproductive tract, and Olive made a full recovery. She was rehomed not long after her final post-op check.
