Holly’s Story
Published: September 27th, 2020
In the depths of winter 2018, just 5 days before Christmas, an extremely malnourished dog was brought to our Coxhoe Rescue Centre. her condition was the worst our team has seen. She could barely hold her head up, and was unable to stand. She was so skinny we couldn’t even be sure what breed she was. Her condition was so critical, we weren’t sure she would survive the night. Being unchipped and without a collar, we decided to call her Holly.
Over the following hours, days, weeks, and months, Holly was given all the care and monitoring she needed. Because her condition was so critical, we had to closely control her diet and medication, to make sure the shock of eating for the first time in what must have been weeks did not kill her.
Soon, Holly began to safely and steadily put on weight, and we quickly realised she was a bright and bouncy staffie. One of the most loving dogs you could ever meet. After just a few months in our care, Holly was ready to find her new, forever home.

In early 2019, Holly got her Christmas wish, a new home. Karen, Holly’s new human, recently sent us this update:
In December 2018 we started to follow Holly’s journey. In January 2019 we delivered donations to Stray Aid where we had the opportunity to meet Holly what an amazing transformation due to the hard work and dedication of all the staff and volunteers. Shortly after our visit we received a call from Lee Henderson the centre manager he asked if we would consider adopting Holly (what a privilege it was). Fast forward 2 years, we now live in Holly’s world our lives revolve around making Holly’s life as full and happy as possible, we wouldn’t have it any other way she has brought us so much joy we can‘t thank Stray Aid enough and continue support them as much as we can. Thank You.
From everyone here at Stray Aid, we would like to thank Karen and her family for giving Holly the second chance she needed.
